Best AEO & GEO Tools in 2026 (By Category)

The best AEO and GEO tools by category: AI visibility measurement, content optimization, technical SEO, entity signals and free tools, with prices as listed on vendor sites.

AI Brand Track Team

The best AEO and GEO tools aren't one product. They're a small stack: one tool to measure whether AI answers mention you, one to shape content that answer engines can quote, free technical tools to keep your site crawlable, and the profiles that define your brand as an entity across the web. In our experience, most teams can cover all of it with one paid measurement or content tool plus free tools from Google, Bing and the review platforms. Below, the options are grouped by job, with features and prices from each vendor's own website.

What AEO and GEO tools actually do

Answer engine optimization (AEO) and generative engine optimization (GEO) both mean getting your brand found, quoted and recommended in AI answers. Our GEO vs SEO vs AEO comparison explains how they differ. For tooling, the work splits into four jobs:

  1. Measure whether AI assistants mention you, how they describe you, and who they recommend instead.
  2. Optimize content so pages answer real questions clearly enough to be quoted.
  3. Keep the site technically accessible so AI crawlers and search indexes can fetch and parse it.
  4. Strengthen entity signals so the wider web describes your brand consistently.

In our view, no single tool does all four well, and most "best GEO tools" lists we've read only cover job 1.

A reality check: Google's documentation for AI Overviews and AI Mode says there are no extra requirements or special optimizations beyond normal SEO, and no need for new AI text files or markup. Be skeptical of any tool that promises a secret AI ranking lever.

1. AI visibility measurement

You need a baseline before you optimize. Measurement tools send prompts to AI assistants and report mentions, rank, sentiment and competitors. We compare ten of them in detail in our guide to the best AI visibility tools.

AI Brand Track (our product). Enter your website URL and it pulls out your brand, industry and keywords, finds competitors, and queries ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini with industry prompts. In about 60 seconds you get a 0-100 visibility score, competitor rankings, sentiment, share of voice and recommendations. Pricing is credit-based: one analysis costs 11 credits, a 14-day Starter trial is $9 (1 full analysis plus weekly checks, then $39/mo unless cancelled), pay-as-you-go is $49 for 53 credits (credits never expire), and subscriptions start at $39/mo. You can save analyses and compare them over time. It also runs automatic weekly monitoring with a trend graph and a weekly email. Limitations: it doesn't track Google AI Overviews, AI Mode or Copilot, tracking is weekly rather than daily, and there's no white label or API yet. More on the approach on our AI rank tracker page.

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit. A $99/mo add-on (no free trial) that puts AI visibility and an AI crawler check in Site Audit next to your keyword data. A good fit if you already work in Semrush. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit details.

Ahrefs Brand Radar. Brings AI mentions, citations and share of voice into Ahrefs, including Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode. Paid Ahrefs plans include a small daily Custom Prompts quota, and there's a free AI visibility preview. Visit Ahrefs Brand Radar.

HubSpot AI Search Grader is covered under free tools below. For pricing, engine coverage and pros and cons of the dedicated trackers, see the best AI visibility tools comparison rather than repeating it here.

2. Content optimization for answer engines

Content tools help you write pages that answer questions completely. Several now bundle AI visibility tracking too. Here's what each vendor lists.

Surfer. Known for on-page content scoring, Surfer now lists AI visibility tracking with mention gaps and brand sentiment, plus "AI SEO Optimization Guidelines." Tracked models listed are ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overview and Gemini, though the Standard plan tracks 25 prompts on ChatGPT only, refreshed weekly. Plans start at €49/mo billed yearly (Discovery, without prompt tracking), as shown on its pricing page in euros. Visit Surfer.

Clearscope. Content optimization with "Query Tracking" across ChatGPT and Gemini, "Brand visibility tracking," and "Query fan-out awareness," which shows the web searches AI platforms run to build their answers. That shows which sub-questions a page should cover. Plans start at $129/mo (Essentials), with Business at $399/mo and a 14-day free trial. Visit Clearscope.

Frase. Briefs, drafting and content audits, plus "AI Visibility" monitoring (ChatGPT and Google AI on Starter, more engines on higher tiers), "AI crawler monitoring" from Professional up, and a "GEO Optimization" feature for tuning content to earn AI citations. Starter is $39/mo billed yearly or $49 monthly, with a 7-day free trial on paid plans. Frase also offers a free GEO Score Checker and AI Visibility Checker. Visit Frase.

MarketMuse. Topic modeling, content briefs and scores like "Topic Authority" and "Content Score." Its pricing page doesn't mention AI search, GEO or AEO by name, so think of it as a topical-depth tool rather than an AI visibility tool. There's a free plan with 10 queries per month. Paid plans require booking a demo. Visit MarketMuse.

Whatever tool you pick, the AEO basics are the same: open each section with a direct 1-3 sentence answer, use question-style headings, add tables and numbered steps, cover follow-up questions, and keep facts current. Our LLM SEO guide goes deeper.

3. Technical and crawlability tools

If AI crawlers and search indexes can't fetch your pages, nothing else matters. The good news: most of this toolkit is free.

Google Search Console (free). Google says sites shown in AI Overviews and AI Mode are counted in overall search traffic, inside the Performance report under the "Web" search type. You can't split out AI traffic, but it's where you confirm indexing and fix crawl errors, and Google's AI features draw on that index. Visit Google Search Console.

Bing Webmaster Tools (free). In our view, the most AEO-specific free tool right now. In February 2026 Bing launched AI Performance in public preview. It shows how often your content is cited across Microsoft Copilot, AI-generated summaries in Bing and select partner integrations. Metrics include total citations, average cited pages per day, page-level citation counts, grounding queries (the phrases the AI used to retrieve your content) and trends over time. In June 2026 Bing announced more preview features: intents, topics, citation share and compare. Caveats from Bing: grounding query data is a sample, and citation counts don't indicate ranking or the role a page played in an answer.

Screaming Frog SEO Spider. A desktop crawler that finds broken links, redirect chains, missing metadata and pages blocked by robots rules. The free version crawls up to 500 URLs with the core audits. Its pricing page reserves JavaScript rendering, structured data validation, crawl comparison and the "Crawl with OpenAI & Gemini" integration for the paid licence, which is $279 (£199) per year. With a licence, compare crawls with and without JavaScript rendering, since Vercel's analysis of AI crawler traffic found that major AI crawlers, including OpenAI's and Anthropic's, don't render JavaScript. Visit Screaming Frog.

Schema validators (free). Google's Rich Results Test checks whether your structured data qualifies for Google rich results. The Schema Markup Validator at schema.org checks any schema.org markup, including types Google doesn't show as rich results. Use both on Organization, Product or SoftwareApplication, FAQPage and Article markup. Schema won't guarantee citations, but it makes your facts unambiguous.

llms.txt generators. llms.txt is a proposed Markdown file listing your key pages for AI agents. Yoast SEO for WordPress generates and refreshes one automatically, and Yoast says the feature is free for everyone. On other platforms you can write the file by hand in minutes. Keep expectations low, though. Google's documentation says you don't need AI text files to appear in its AI features, and we haven't seen other major AI providers publicly commit to using llms.txt. It's cheap, but it isn't a lever.

Your own robots.txt. Check that AI search bots such as OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and Claude-SearchBot aren't blocked by robots.txt or your CDN's bot protection. The user agents are documented by OpenAI, Perplexity and Anthropic.

4. Entity and brand signal tools

AI models learn about your brand from what's written across the web, not just your site (OpenAI, for example, says its models are developed partly from information publicly available on the internet). These platforms shape that picture.

Google Business Profile (free). Google says creating a profile is free. It holds your hours, services, photos and reviews, and matters most for local businesses.

Wikidata (free). A structured, machine-readable knowledge base. Under its notability policy, an item qualifies if it has a valid sitelink to a Wikimedia project such as Wikipedia, if it's a clearly identifiable entity documented by serious, publicly available references, or if it fills a structural need. Don't create an entry without independent coverage; it may be deleted. If you qualify, accurate statements (official website, industry, social profiles) help machines connect your brand's facts.

G2. Per G2's own materials, every company can claim and maintain a free profile, with paid plans adding customization, analytics and lead generation. In our experience, G2 category pages often show up as third-party sources for "best X" questions about B2B software.

Capterra. Another large software review directory; in our experience it often matters for B2B categories. Check its vendor pages for current listing terms, including what's free and what's paid.

Trustpilot. A free plan lets you claim your company profile and send 50 review invitations per month. Paid plans start at $99/mo per domain, billed annually. See Trustpilot plans.

What to do with them: use the same brand name, category and one-line description everywhere, link profiles from your site's Organization schema (sameAs), and ask real customers for reviews on the platforms your buyers read. Then check which sources AI tools actually cite for your category prompts and focus there. Our guide to getting mentioned in ChatGPT covers outreach in more depth.

5. Free AEO and GEO tools

You can do a lot without spending anything:

  • HubSpot AI Search Grader: a free, one-time score out of 100 for how ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini describe your brand, across sentiment, presence quality, brand recognition, share of voice and market competition. A short form unlocks the full report. HubSpot says it's based on the engines' training data, so treat it as a perception snapshot, not tracking.
  • Ahrefs' free AI visibility preview and Frase's free GEO Score Checker and AI Visibility Checker.
  • Everything free in sections 3 and 4: Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, the schema validators, Screaming Frog's free tier, Yoast llms.txt, Google Business Profile, Wikidata and the free review profiles.
  • The AI assistants themselves. Running your key prompts manually and logging results in a spreadsheet is slow but free.

How to choose AEO and GEO tools

  1. Start from the gap, not the category. If you don't know whether AI mentions you at all, start with measurement. If AI mentions competitors because they have stronger review profiles, entity work beats another content tool.
  2. Cover each job once. List what you already pay for (SEO suite, content tool, CMS plugins) and map it to the four jobs above before buying anything new.
  3. Avoid paying twice. Surfer, Clearscope and Frase now include some AI visibility tracking. Test whether it's enough before adding a dedicated tracker.
  4. Fix access before content. If AI crawlers are blocked or key pages aren't indexed, content and entity work can't pay off, so run the technical checks first.
  5. Use the free tools first. Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, schema validators and review profiles cost nothing and fix the most common blockers.
  6. Budget time, not just software. Entity and review work is mostly outreach and editing, so the free platforms in section 4 need hours more than money.
  7. Be wary of guarantees. No vendor controls what ChatGPT or Gemini say.

A sample AEO/GEO workflow combining tools

Here's a practical monthly loop for a small team:

  1. Baseline (week 1). Run an AI visibility check (a dedicated tracker, the HubSpot AI Search Grader, or a manual prompt test). Record your visibility score or mention rate, which competitors get recommended, and how you're described.
  2. Technical pass (week 1). In Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, confirm key pages are indexed. Check Bing's AI Performance report for pages already cited and their grounding queries. Crawl with Screaming Frog to find blocked pages (spotting JavaScript-only content needs the paid licence's rendering), and validate schema with the free validators.
  3. Content fixes (weeks 2-3). For prompts where competitors appear and you don't, rewrite or create the matching page: direct answer first, question headings, comparison table, current facts. Bing grounding queries and Clearscope fan-out queries show which sub-questions to cover.
  4. Entity work (ongoing). Make your brand description identical across your site, Google Business Profile, G2, Capterra, Trustpilot and LinkedIn. Ask recent customers for reviews. Add or correct your Wikidata item if you qualify.
  5. Re-measure (week 4 and monthly). Re-run the same prompt set so results stay comparable. Judge trends over several months, not single runs.

Example prompts to keep in your fixed test set:

FAQ

What are AEO tools?

AEO (answer engine optimization) tools help your brand get found and quoted in AI answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google's AI features. They fall into four groups: visibility measurement, content optimization, technical and crawlability tools, and entity or review platforms. For most teams we recommend combining one paid tool with several free ones.

What is the best GEO tool?

There's no single best GEO tool, because GEO covers different jobs. For measurement, compare dedicated trackers in our best AI visibility tools guide. For content, tools like Surfer, Clearscope and Frase now add AI tracking to on-page optimization. For technical work, Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools are free and essential.

Are there free AEO tools?

Yes. The HubSpot AI Search Grader, Ahrefs' free AI visibility preview, and Frase's free checkers give you a visibility snapshot. Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools (with its AI Performance report), the Rich Results Test, the Schema Markup Validator and Screaming Frog's free version (up to 500 URLs, without JavaScript rendering) cover the technical side. Google Business Profile and the free tiers of G2 and Trustpilot cover entity signals.

Do I need special tools for GEO?

Not to get started. Google says there are no special requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode beyond normal SEO, so the fundamentals and free tools come first. Where dedicated tools help is measurement: classic rank trackers and Google Alerts aren't built to show whether AI answers mention you, so you either test prompts manually or use an AI visibility tool.

What is the difference between AEO tools and SEO tools?

SEO tools focus on rankings, backlinks and technical health in search results, while AEO tools focus on whether AI answers mention, cite and describe your brand correctly. The line is blurring as Semrush, Ahrefs, Surfer and Clearscope add AI visibility features.

How often should I check AI visibility?

Monthly works for most brands, plus an extra check after big content launches, PR pushes or major model updates. Because AI answers can vary between runs (in our experience they often do), keep the same prompt set and compare trends over time rather than reacting to one result.
